Week End Retreats

Alternative Cambodia
Cambodia is generally misperceived as a dangerous place. My experience is that I have never felt safer in my life and I have made it my work to try and give this country a more positive representation, but one of the great joys of living here is that Cambodia is definitely a bit quirky. This gallery gives a light hearted look at everyday life in Cambodia with a little post production tweaking just to help the story.

A Tour in Black and White
Some times it's good to set yourself new challenges. I spent my first few years at photography college shooting exclusively in Black White , but then I learnt how to print in colour, and gradually became seduced. The first time I went to India, I just felt there was too much colour to ignore; right there I became a complete convert and colour became very much part of my daily compositional make up. For nearly 20 odd years I hadn’t shot, thought or composed in B&W. After doing the same 11-day tour in Cambodia a dozen or so times it was time for a new challenge. I decided to shoot the entire tour in B&W. Just to see how it made see the same things differently.

In 1994 Nathan settled back in London and embarked on a commercial photographic career. He became a widely published photographer, recognized for his great passion of life, people, travel, food and drink by major magazines and newspapers, including Elle, Food & Travel, Land Rover, and The Times. Again in 2006 after settling in Phnom Penh apart from running very successful workshops and tours he has quickly gained a good reputation as a professional photographer and subsequently a wide and varied commercial client base both in Advertising and Editorial.

Train to Battambong

UNDP Land Mine Clearance
The level of land mine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) contamination in Cambodia ranks among the highest in the world. Around 85% of Cambodians rely on agriculture for their livelihoods. Chronic mine contamination means the threat of death or serious injury is a daily reality for Cambodians going off the beaten track in rural provinces. The UNDP are working hard to improve matters.
Tourists should not be at risk if they stay on the beaten track.

Shelter of Love
The Shelter of Love Center is a home for disadvantaged and displaced children located in the central province of Kompong Thom, Cambodia. It was began with funding provided by an American couple who desired to help needy children.
24 acres of land were purchased in November 2002 and the first building began in July 2003. It's a non-government organization with a Cambodian staff of 15. In January of 2005, two more houses were built to accommodate 14 children in each as well as a small apartment for the house parents. Recently, 17 more children joined the center, bringing the total to 51 children at the Center.

Water festival 09
Bon Om Tok or Water Festival is held late October or early November to celebrate in end of the rainy season. Hundreds of boats race each other on the Tonle Sap whilst millions watch from the river banks.
