India - Gujarat (Holi Festival)

US$7850 - 6 PLACES LEFT [NEW - SMALL GROUP]

Join us on a unique photographic journey through Gujarat, timed to coincide with Holi, India’s exuberant festival of colour. Over the course of twelve days, we travel from Ahmedabad to the remote villages of Kutch. We begin with Ahmedabad’s pre-dawn flower market and old city, then photograph the Modhera Sun Temple and Patan’s Rani ki Vav stepwell. Around Jambughoda and Kavant, tribal communities gather for Holi fairs, with music, dancing, coloured powder and the bonfires of Holika Dahan. We also visit Champaner, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the royal aarti ceremony in Muli. Heading west, we photograph weavers, potters and artisans in Bajana, Nirona and Hodka. A highlight is time with the Jat, a private, semi-nomadic community whose women wear enormous gold nose rings; we photograph them in their homes through trusted local relationships. We finish in Bhuj, where Holika Dahan at the Swaminarayan Temple is followed by Dhulheti Holi, the festival of colour. Read more here.
