Cambodia – The Green Season Photo Tour.

Capture the Kingdom’s lush landscapes and timeless temple scenes.

Join Nathan for a special 10-day photographic journey through Cambodia during the “green season." This time of year offers ideal conditions for creating powerful and original images, thanks to dramatic skies, vibrant landscapes, and fewer tourists. While we might experience occasional late afternoon showers, these bring life and colour to the countryside, soften the light, and add atmosphere to every frame.

Our adventure begins in Phnom Penh, a dynamic city where the Royal Palace, colonial-era buildings, and vibrant Khmer life converge. We'll explore the Royal Palace,  bustling street markets, and quiet backstreets full of character. From there, we travel to the former royal capital of Udong to visit a large Vispassana Complex where devout monks finish their morning meditations and form long lines into elaborate dining halls.

We then continue to the riverside town of Kampong Chhnang, where we’ll explore rural villages, colourful rice paddies, and sugar palm trees at their best. The area is also home to floating communities along the Tonlé Sap’s tributaries, providing unique opportunities to photograph stilted houses, small boats, and daily life on the water.

In Battambang, we'll slow the pace to focus on local life. From quirky rides on the bamboo train to intimate portraits in pagoda settings, this area offers rich encounters with Cambodia’s rural heartland. A visit to the Phare Ponleu Selpak circus school, where young performers train in acrobatics and the arts, promises one of the most rewarding photographic sessions of the trip.

Next, we travel by boat through narrow waterways and stilted villages to Siem Reap, the gateway to the magnificent temples of Angkor, a UNESCO World Heritage site. With fewer crowds at this time of year, and lush jungle surroundings, the historic temples take on an atmospheric quality that’s rarely experienced during the dry season.

We’ll dedicate two full days to exploring and photographing both iconic and lesser-known temples within the Angkor complex. From the enigmatic faces of Bayon to the jungle-strangled ruins of Ta Prohm, each site offers striking compositions and a sense of quiet grandeur. We’ll mix wide-angle scenes with moody details and seek out opportunities for atmospheric portraits, including encounters with the resident monks.

Our final excursion takes us into the forested hills of Phnom Kulen, the sacred birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire. Here, we'll visit remote jungle temples, ancient riverbed carvings, and cooling waterfalls, ending the trip on a high note with wide-angle landscape opportunities and candid moments in the surrounding villages. We'll then return to Siem Reap for a farewell dinner with the group and a well-deserved rest.

The tour is suited to photographers of all skill levels, with an optional pre-tour technical and aesthetic workshop for those who may be new to travel photography or want to brush up on their camera skills. It will run for 10D9N from 25 July to 3 August, 2026 and is priced at just US$4950, subject to the usual discounts for past participants and non-photographers. We will post a more detailed itinerary soon, so please keep an eye out for it.
